The state of application of bio-organic fertilizers

The state of application of bio-organic fertilizers

At this stage, growers are not very active in applying bio-organic fertilisers, and the use rate of bio-organic fertilisers is relatively low, mainly in vegetables, fruits, Chinese herbs, tobacco and other economic crops with high added value. However, as people's consumption levels and safety awareness increase, the demand for green and organic agricultural products is growing and bio-organic fertilisers will become an inevitable choice for agricultural production.

At present, the application of bio-organic fertilisers in some ecological demonstration areas, green and organic agricultural products base has achieved better results, which plays a good demonstration role for the promotion and application of bio-organic fertilisers in the future.

The impact of bio-organic fertilizers on crop yields

Compared with the application of equivalent chemical fertilizers, the application of bio-organic fertilizers increased the yields of watermelon, tomato, cabbage and choy by 25.5%, 35.9%, 41.6% and 50.6% respectively, reaching highly significant levels, and also had significant yield increases for Chillies, Broccoli, cotton and rice (Table 1). It has been reported that the application of bio-organic fertiliser can increase the yield of peanut by 33% compared to the equivalent application of diammonium phosphate.

The impact of bio-organic fertilizers on crop quality

Compared to chemical fertilisers alone, the application of bio-organic fertilisers significantly increased the diameter and quality of cabbage and watermelon plants, and improved the quality of tomatoes and chillies, increasing the content of vitamin C and reducing sugars in tomatoes and chillies.

A study of the effects of different fertiliser applications on lettuce quality showed that the application of bio-organic fertilisers increased the vitamin C content of lettuce, reduced the total acidity and significantly increased the sugar to acid ratio, while significantly reducing the cancer-inducing nitrate content (Table 2), which plays an important role in improving the taste and safety of lettuce.

Effectiveness of bio-organic fertilizers in the control of soil-borne diseases

A large number of studies have shown that the application of bio-organic fertilisers can effectively control soil-borne diseases.

Bio-organic fertilisers made from Bacillus polymyxa, which is antagonistic to blight, have a 73% control effect in the field.

The bio-fertiliser made from Bacillus subtilis II-36 and I-23 for aubergine has been tested in pots and both fertilisers can effectively suppress aubergine blight, with 96% and 91% prevention rates respectively.

Currently, bio-organic fertilisers are very effective in the control of soil-borne diseases of vegetables, fruits and tobacco, and are an important and effective way of ecological control of soil-borne diseases.
